The former Israeli Prime Minister known as his nickname Arik died Saturday morning January 11, 2014. A stroke was announced as the cause of death. He had been sick for several years before his death. In 2006 he suffered a severe stroke which made him coma since then. He recently developed a serious kidney problem during a coma. He is a very important figure in the history of Israel.

He became Israel’s 11th prime minister and served for 5 years. In 2006 he was replaced by Ehud Olmert. Ariel Sharon’s political decision and career has been controversial but effective. His efforts throughout his career were proven to have a desire to move towards a peaceful resolution for many problems.

The last Sharon was politically active in 2005. One of the most significant laws came right before a coma. He proposed a plan in 2004 which was then adopted by the government called the unilateral release.

The agreement was applied to remove all Israeli people from the Gaza Strip and move them in the North West Bank. Strip has been home to more than 8.5k Jewish settlers and more than 1.3 million Palestinians for 38 years but are controlled and ruled by Israeli people. But the strip has become the center of mass tension and violence due to disagreement between different religious groups. In an effort to reduce Ariel Sharon’s violence, a proposal was adopted by the government in 2005. This came into force only 10 days later.
