Jamie Dimon is the Chair of J.P. Morgan Chase which is one of the four largest banks in the United States. US citizens from birth, Jamie Dimon has been a total of four times in 100 most influential people in Time magazine; in 2006, 2008, 2009, and 2011.

Youth

Dimon was born in New York City and is a Greek immigrant child. His parents, Theodore and Themis Dimon both were business people who arrived in America long before Jamie and his two siblings, Peter and Ted, were born.

His grandfather, who is a stock broker in Shearson, changed the family name of Papademetriou to Dimon to make him sound more France.

Education

Dimon attended The Browning School, which was the only independent school of boys in New York City. He passed Summa Cum Laude at Tufts University, majoring in Psychology and Economics. In Tufts where he got his first summer job to do a budget for Shearson after he wrote an essay about the Shearson merger.

After graduating, Mr. Dimon conducted several management consultations for two years before registering at the Harvard Business School. During his time at Harvard, he worked at Goldman Sachs before graduating in 1982 with a master of business administration as a baker.

After graduating, he was offered the role of the assistant at American Express by Sandy Weill. During that time at American Express, his father was the executive vice president in the same company.

His career

Dimon together with Sandy Weill both left American Express for commercial credit. Shortly after, they managed to create a big financial service conglomerate called Citigroup. In 1998, Dimon left Citigroup after Sandy Weill asked him. The reason so far is unknown, but reportedly that Weill fired him after refusing to promote his daughter.

J.P. Morgan Chase

In 2000, Jamie Dimon became the CEO of Bank One, which succeeded in increasing it as a U.S. Bank. 5th largest.

Shortly after 2004, J.P. Morgan Chase acquired Bank One and Dimon became President and Chief Operating Officer J.P. Morgan Chase.
